Daddy and Caylin at the beach
Last week we returned from a week long trip to Hawaii. We were able to stay with some friends in Laie, across the street from the temple. It was an amazing trip to say the least, and one that will not soon be forgotten.
We left Thursday, August 16th and arrived there in the early afternoon. Despite my worst fears about traveling with a nearly 5 month old, Caylin did very well on the flight. I was sure to pack an entire backpack devoted to entertaining her, yet little did I know that all we needed was daddy's hat! She was enthralled with this new thing that was on top of his head!
We were able to see and do lots of fun things. Colby was able to golf several times with Kris, which he was thrilled about. Caylin was able to make friends with Niki, their little girl who is exactly two weeks older than her. We went to the Swap Meet in Honolulu, the Polynesian Cultural Center, took a tour of the island, and so much more. Colby and I were able to go snorkeling one day with Kris, and let me tell you, it was incredible! There were so many fish!
The Polynesian Cultural Center was amazing. Caylin was a little angel and experienced so many new things. She had her first taste of ice cream there (cookies and cream), and loved it! We were luckily able to get a video of it, because she was hilarious. She cried every time dad took the spoon away to get some more. She loved watching the shows we attended, especially the night show. She was tired beyond words, but refused to take her eyes off the stage. It was so cute to watch her.

Watching the night showThe last day there we were able to all go to the beach. Colby got attacked by a dog, but luckily didn't get too hurt-just a few scratches. When the dog finally left us alone, Caylin was able to get in the water with me. She loved the ocean! She loved to watch the waves and the palm trees on the shore. She loved to get her toes in the sand and wiggle them around. This was quite a difference from the first time she went to the beach in California, when she slept the whole time!
Getting home that night proved to be more difficult than we imagined, but we made it. As it turned out, I had accidentally booked the flight for the wrong day and we weren't supposed to leave until the next night. As luck would have it, there were three seats left on that night's flight, and we were able to pay a bit to get two of them. I guess there are worse things than getting stuck in Hawaii, but we were ready to be home! Caylin was able to sleep the whole way home, which was a great relief.
It was an amazing trip and so great to have so much time with the three of us together.
