Caylin & Sienna

The other day Ashlee and Sienna came over to play for a bit. Sienna is two weeks older than Caylin, but you wouldn't know it by looking at them - Sienna is four pounds bigger and over two inches longer! Caylin really is a munchkin compared to Sienna! They had lots of fun together, and Caylin enjoyed having someone around that really spoke her language!

Gardner Village

Last Saturday we went with my family to Gardner Village to see the lights and the elves. Caylin loved the elves - she really got a kick out of them! We didn't realize it, but we showed up just in time to see the live nativity they were putting on out there as well. Caylin liked watching all the animals also.

Favorite animal: it's a toss up between a dog and a cat
Favorite song: The Wheels on the Bus
Favorite game: Peek-a-boo; Pat-a-cake
Favorite toy: either the phone or whatever else she can get her hands on that she's really not supposed to have
Hates: the vacuum cleaner

There's Caylin in a nutshell

I made it!

Okay, so I know this probably isn't as exciting to some of you as it is to me, but I finally made it back to my pre-baby weight. I know you're probably thinking also that it has also been nine months, which would seem like plenty of time, but when you gain 63, yes, 63 pounds to begin with, it is a big deal to get it back off. Plus the fact that I had just run a marathon when I got pregnant means that I had a lot to live up to, at least in my mind. My goal was to lose it by the time Caylin was nine months, and I made it, by just a few days. I was watching home movies this morning of when she was born, and let me just say, I hope I never look like that again! (Don't get me wrong, Caylin was worth every bit!!!)

Random "Caylinness"

I found her all wrapped up in daddy's shirt playing peek-a-boo with the sleeve.

Caylin was fascinated with the falling snow outside.

She has a strange obsession with the laundry baskets!

Caylin's Christmas Tree

So this is Caylin's Christmas tree that is in her room. She absolutely loves it. She gets so excited every time she sees her little one or our big one.

Bus ride to see Santa

Caylin got to experience her first Healey family bus ride to see Santa on Monday. We usually ride the bus to Trax and then go downtown to see Santa, but since there is no Santa downtown this year, we went to Fashion Place. After nearly missing the bus in the first place and two transfers, we made it, all 27 of us. As you can see from the pictures, Caylin just loved Santa! It is pretty cute, though, that as I was telling her that morning that we were going to see Santa and kept telling her over and over that Santa says "Ho, ho, ho," she finally caught on, only her version is more of an "Oh, oh, oh." It is pretty cute, because as she saw the pictures of Santa as I was downloading them, she got all excited and started telling me what he says.

My teeth!

Caylin's second tooth finally popped through a couple of days ago. The first one came through a couple of weeks ago, and I could have sworn that the second one was right behind it. Well, two weeks later it finally appeared. I haven't managed to get any pictures yet, but she looks so cute with them. My favorite part is that every once in a while I find her with her tongue hanging out of her mouth, and she is really moving it back and forth over her teeth, trying to figure out what is in there. She's already managed to put quite a few teeth marks in the coffee table, which I am hoping I can eventually cover up with a magic marker or something.

Caylin also started clapping last week, although it's only a one-handed clap for the time being. She holds her right hand still while she claps with her left. I'm hoping eventually that right hand will come around!

The Witches

Last week we went with all of Caylin's cousins to see the witches at Gardner Village before they were put away for the season. Caylin got a kick out of them, and wanted to grab and touch them. She liked seeing the ducks as well, and also just watching all her cousins run around and have a good time.

Splish Splash

Bath time is Caylin's favorite time of the day. She gets so excited when the water starts running and she realizes what is about to happen. Even if she was fussy and unhappy before, as soon as the bath starts, she is all smiles. When she gets in, she could stay there all night if we would let her!

Quite a scary Halloween

My cute little bunny!

Halloween morning, Caylin decided she would give us the biggest scare of our lives. She woke up around 4 and I went in and fed her, although she wasn't going back to sleep. I put her back in her crib even though she wasn't asleep, knowing that eventually she would succumb. I could hear her playing around in there on the monitor as I drifted back to sleep. All of a sudden I heard a thud and my heart jumped. I knew exactly what had happened as I raced in to find her face down on the floor in front of her crib. I screamed and turned her over, luckily to find her crying and moving. Colby came in all in a panic because he had no idea what was going on. I was scared to death not knowing if she was hurt or anything was broken, and all she wanted to do was nurse. We turned the lights on and checked her all over and made her sit and crawl and anything else we could think of to see if she was alright. Everything seemed to be fine, but needless to say I was a total mess. Caylin slept in our bed with us the rest of the night, but I hardly slept because I was too scared that if I didn't keep an eye on her something would happen.

The next morning I called the Pediatrician and told them what had happened and asked them what to look for. From what I could tell, Caylin was just fine. Don't worry, lowering the crib was next thing I did.

I am assuming that Caylin saw the nightlight on the monitor that is on a bookshelf next to the crib and reached for it. That is the first time I know of that she was able to pull herself up on her crib.
Looking back on what happened and realizing all that really could have gone wrong, I am so grateful that nothing did. If her intention really was to give us a Halloween scare, she sure succeeded!

That night she got a kick out of watching all the kids walking around in their costumes!

Just Chillin'

Caylin likes to watch TV whenever she can, although I try not to let her watch too much in fear she'll turn out to be a couch potato. Anyway, the other day I came in and found she and daddy kicked back and watching football. She looks like she's comfy!

Caylin loves to have her feet up on things - even in her high chair!

Growin' Up

Caylin has really grown in the last little bit! She is now sitting, crawling, and babbling like no other. She had her six month check-up last month and weighed just 14 pounds! I thought for sure she would be bigger than that, especially with her eating solid foods now. She was such a good girl getting her shots, and look at the pretty band-aids she got! Later that same day we went to the zoo with Ashlee and Sienna. Caylin was able to see a few of the animals, but didn't really enjoy it as much as I had anticipated. I guess we'll have to wait until next year to really appreciate it!

Johnny Jump-Up

Yesterday as we visited with Grandma Jill, I was explaining to her that Caylin would much rather stand than sit. She asked if I had a jumper for her to play in, and when I told her no, she offered her Johnny Jump-Up for Caylin to try out. As you can see, she very much enjoyed it! She got the hang of it right away and was jumping a bit, but more just prancing and dancing around. It was nice to have another outlet for her to play in so I could have some free hands!

I'm a big girl now!

I just couldn't hold off any longer. I had Caylin in her high chair this morning as I unloaded the dishwasher and as I pulled out her bowls and spoons, I couldn't help but get out the rice cereal and make up a batch for her. She was thrilled once she realized that I had food and that she was going to get some. She actually did much better than I was expecting her to do with it - it all stayed in her mouth! I had to hold her hands down to keep her from trying to feed herself. Yesterday her uncle Brett got married, and Caylin was able to taste some of the wedding cake, so I figured she was ready for the rice cereal.

Caylin actually got a second dose this evening as well after she threw a fit that the cookie I was eating was gone. She got to taste that, and was very unhappy that there was no more, so I got some more cereal ready for her. She had quite a bit, and threw yet another fit when the cereal was gone. I think I may have created a monster! I really was quite impressed at how good she was with it. She didn't act confused or unsure of what to do with it, she apparently has been ready for a while it seems!

My new high chair!

Today Caylin's new high chair arrived in the mail. She looks so dang cute in it. I am trying to put off starting her on solid foods until the six month mark, but I really don't know if I can! She has tried popsicles, ice cream, a sno cone, and a few other things, and she is really excited to eat, so we'll see just how long we both can wait. One thing is for sure, it is bound to be a hilarious adventure for us both!

I also had to put this picture on here of her sitting up. Uncle Chris and Ashley came over to visit, and she decided to sit on her own for a couple of minutes for the first time!

Hawaii

Daddy and Caylin at the beach

Last week we returned from a week long trip to Hawaii. We were able to stay with some friends in Laie, across the street from the temple. It was an amazing trip to say the least, and one that will not soon be forgotten.

We left Thursday, August 16th and arrived there in the early afternoon. Despite my worst fears about traveling with a nearly 5 month old, Caylin did very well on the flight. I was sure to pack an entire backpack devoted to entertaining her, yet little did I know that all we needed was daddy's hat! She was enthralled with this new thing that was on top of his head!

We were able to see and do lots of fun things. Colby was able to golf several times with Kris, which he was thrilled about. Caylin was able to make friends with Niki, their little girl who is exactly two weeks older than her. We went to the Swap Meet in Honolulu, the Polynesian Cultural Center, took a tour of the island, and so much more. Colby and I were able to go snorkeling one day with Kris, and let me tell you, it was incredible! There were so many fish!

The Polynesian Cultural Center was amazing. Caylin was a little angel and experienced so many new things. She had her first taste of ice cream there (cookies and cream), and loved it! We were luckily able to get a video of it, because she was hilarious. She cried every time dad took the spoon away to get some more. She loved watching the shows we attended, especially the night show. She was tired beyond words, but refused to take her eyes off the stage. It was so cute to watch her.

Watching the night show

The last day there we were able to all go to the beach. Colby got attacked by a dog, but luckily didn't get too hurt-just a few scratches. When the dog finally left us alone, Caylin was able to get in the water with me. She loved the ocean! She loved to watch the waves and the palm trees on the shore. She loved to get her toes in the sand and wiggle them around. This was quite a difference from the first time she went to the beach in California, when she slept the whole time!

Getting home that night proved to be more difficult than we imagined, but we made it. As it turned out, I had accidentally booked the flight for the wrong day and we weren't supposed to leave until the next night. As luck would have it, there were three seats left on that night's flight, and we were able to pay a bit to get two of them. I guess there are worse things than getting stuck in Hawaii, but we were ready to be home! Caylin was able to sleep the whole way home, which was a great relief.

It was an amazing trip and so great to have so much time with the three of us together.

Niki and Caylin

Hello

This is a new thing for me, but after contemplating creating a blog for a while, I have decided to take the plunge. I figure it is a great way to keep track of my little one and let others see how she is growing.
